Esther Sokolow is a Los Angeles-based editor. Her work bridges studio tentpoles and independent character dramas, with a personal joy for shaping horror and psychological thrillers.
She recently edited HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry for Andy Muschietti, continuing a creative collaboration that began on IT: Chapter Two, where she served as 1st Assistant Editor, and grew through The Flash, where she was promoted to Additional Editor.
Originally from Atlanta, Esther grew up on a steady diet of Hitchcock, Sherlock Holmes, classic mysteries, and silent comedies. Those early influences sparked a deep interest in suspense, visual rhythm, and performance. That pull toward cinematic storytelling led her to California to study Film Editing at Chapman University. In 2015, she was selected as an honorary intern for American Cinema Editors (ACE), an experience that shaped her early career and inspired a lasting commitment to both craft and mentorship.
Before stepping into the editing chair, Esther worked as an assistant editor on feature films including Rampage, Bloodshot, The Guilty, Stronger, Fall, and Rememory. She also worked in-house as a VFX Editor at Method Studios, contributing to Guardians of the Galaxy and San Andreas.
Supporting other editors taught her more than technique. She learned to listen, to pacing and performance, and to the subtle story beats that can shift a scene. That same quiet care now guides her own storytelling as an editor.
